Q&A on Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAP)

  1. What exactly is Ketamine-Assisted Therapy?

Ketamine has been used in medical settings for years, but the field of KAP is a relatively new and also backed by research intervention to treat depression and anxiety, and in general help clients gain new insights and understandings about themselves and their past. The client will ingest or be administered Ketamine in one of several ways (determined ahead of time) in the session with the therapist and will be completely supported during this journey while wearing a blindfold and listening to music with headphones.

  2. How long does it last?

The sessions are scheduled at 2 hours long which includes time to get settled and discuss anything that comes up once you come out of it. The effects of the medicine itself typically last anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes long.

  3. How will I know if it’s safe for me to take?

You will attend a mandatory medical evaluation with a doctor or nurse to determine if it is safe for you to take, and determine the dosage/method based on your needs.

  4. I have heard of other companies that market doing it from home. How is this different?

As psychedelic therapy becomes a more prominent and “mainstreamed” approach, many venture capitals are hopping on the bandwagon in order to commodify this and create a do-it-yourself approach. However doing psychedelic therapy by yourself without a trained professional can be not only less impactful but extremely dangerous. You are going to gain so much more from this experience if you have a mental health professional to support you and help you integrate everything that comes up each step of the way, and it will be guaranteed safer.

  5. I want to try this but I don’t live in the area. Can I still do it with you?

Yes! Contact me to hear more about KAP intensives. These are designed for people outside of the Front Range or out of state that want to do a deep dive into personal transformation through a wellness “retreat style” experience. Once medically approved, preparation coaching sessions will be done over zoom, and we will collaborate to come up with a unique, customizable schedule for your intensive over the course of a week or weekend.

  6. I have done psychedelics before, is this similar?

In some ways yes, but this will likely be very different from other settings where you may have taken psychedelics or plant medicines in the past. Having prior experience with psychedelics is helpful but it is not a prerequisite.
